Abstract

This hands-on workshop explores how developers can use NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 VL and OpenShell to investigate software bugs, propose fixes, and verify the results.

Participants will work with a controlled software-repair exercise inspired by the recent PHP security incident. Using Nemotron 3.5 VL through a hosted model endpoint, they will examine a bug report, source code, and relevant visual evidence, then test proposed fixes inside OpenShell. The exercise will demonstrate how to give an agent access to the files and tools it needs while keeping its execution within defined boundaries.

We will track whether each fix passes the tests, how many attempts it requires, and the tokens consumed. Participants will learn to distinguish a plausible patch from a verified solution and establish a baseline for further improvement.

Post-training will be provided as an optional take-home exercise, with a guided reinforcement-learning recipe that uses test results as feedback. Participants can investigate whether further training improves fix success and token efficiency on unseen tasks. Running this training will require separate GPU access.

The live workshop uses participants’ laptops and hosted inference; no model training is required during the session.
